The Kaolin Collection was born from conversations between Tortuga founder Andrea and designer Farrah Sit about their shared cultural heritage around Asian home cooking. Produced in Vermont by Light + Ladder, the porcelain tableware blends sculptural form with functional design.
Sculptural pieces are designed to elevate the communal, family-style dining experience of an Asian meal.
Designed to adorn the table as an art objet, the utensil holder is discrete in its function, balancing both chopsticks and flatware alike.
Playful and modular, the sauce bowls celebrate the sweet, salty, sour, spicy and umami notes of Asian cuisine and link together to form a serpentine arrangement, visually illustrating the endless possibilities for combining flavors.
The footed rice bowl, central to the Asian table, is sized to be held in the palm of one's hand, with chopsticks in the other. Elevated on a pedestal, it honors this humble form—its rhythmic click against chopsticks marking the tempo of a shared meal.
