MOLTEN is a new collection of sculptural sconces that captures expression and strength through softness, fluidity, and reflection. The process-driven designs were hand-sculpted in clay, and cast in polished white brass, resulting in a reflective sensation of liquid motion that is frozen in time. The sweeping imprints in clay were inspired by the undulations of molten lava. A reminder that things we perceive to be still, such as volcanic rock, are always moving, aging, evolving, underneath the surface. The pace of change is imperceptible until we peer into the past. Polished to a high sheen, the white brass is transformed into sculptural mirrors, adorning the space to subtly reflect the movement and life of the people in it. One sconce has a small glass mirror set directly into the crater-like opening. When lit, the sconces cast a warm, glowing halo against the wall, inviting intimacy.
